Who thought that turning forty could be so exciting? All of a sudden I’m moving in a new world of health awareness, thoughts on longevity, how to ensure that I have a healthy body for the next chapter of my life.
I’ve come to realize that the recklessness of my youth, even though exhilarating, unnecessary risk and that the important things in life are health, love, family and money.
So what is the story?
All men over age 50 are at risk of developing BPH (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia), and the risk increases with age. Other factors that can hasten the process include having a family history of the condition, being overweight, smoking and stress.
BPH is also more common in white and black men than in Asian men, and married men versus singles.
So how do you approach this new chapter in your life, embrace it, it has to makings of the best years of your life and it is under your control through proper exercise, nutrition, stress reduction and knowing your body.
Testing is getting more advanced; the latest news is that researchers have found a way of testing your risk factor with a saliva swab.
In a study published online today by the New England Journal of Medicine, American and Swedish researchers found that men who inherit four or more genetic mutations already individually linked to prostate cancer are 400 to 500 per cent more likely than other men to develop the disease.
“Prostate cancer is common. If you just take random men from the population and you biopsy their prostates — I’m talking about the average guy over 60 walking down the street — you can find prostate cancer in 20 per cent of them,” says Narod.
But less than one in five men will die of the disease. “So the big gulf in our understanding and management is how to distinguish those cancers that are likely to kill you and those ones that are likely to grow so slowly that you’re going to outlive the cancer.”
So what do you do?
Maintaining a healthy prostate is still the best way to avoid having to undergo strenuous treatment tactics to manage these problems. In the past few years, supplements for prostate health have been made available to help men minimize their chances of developing any of these disorders.
You have to look at your complete body picture, are all your systems in balance or are there areas that need serious attention? The chances are that you are not as healthy as you should be because of lifestyle pressures.

These changes are more than likely taking place due to the change or reduction in the metabolism of testosterone. Which means that you are now officially experiencing Andropause or male menopause, it happens to all of us.
Don’t panic, you can manage this with some simple additions and omissions to your diet, exercise and stopping to smell the roses.
So in order to keep your prostate healthy you must keep your body healthy and in order to do that you can start by looking after your adrenal glands.
