Learning About Breast Cancer Risk Part II

Posted on August 28, 2008

In another article, we took a look at some of the risk factors associated with developing breast cancer. These included: age, gender, and alcohol consumption to name only a few.

Some other things that can put you at risk include:

Diets that are high in saturated fats. We all need some fat in our bodies as it helps the body draw more energy when needed (for instance to keep warm) however, having too much of this can put you at a higher risk of breast cancer. Along with that, being obese increases the risk as well, as the body in this case is using up tremendous amounts of energy just to get through each day, which means it may not have enough to keep the immune system strong.

Also, if you regularly take drugs such as Diethylstilbestrol - Diethylstilbestrol to prevent miscarriage, you will have an increased risk, especially after forty.

Exposure to chemicals such as pesticides and other industrial products may contribute to increased risk of breast cancer.

Women who have late pregnancies (anything into age forty) are considered to have increased risk. Family history can play some part in increased risk however it is thought of as negligible. Studies show at leas. 85 percent of women who develop breast cancer have no family history of the disease. If a person had breast cancer previously, then the risk is high that they may develop it again.

Hormone replacement therapy, estrogen in most cases, is thought to slightly increase the risk, although there is greater chance in reducing heart disease and Alzheimer’s disease so this can be seen as minute.
As you can see, there is a mix of things that contribute to someone’s risk of developing breast cancer.

Some of them are things that you cannot control (such as pesticides), others you can (such as exercise and diet). Ultimately it is up to the individual to first take excellent care of themselves as this is key in lowering risk.

There is currently a raging debate about whether conventional or natural treatments are best for fighting your breast cancer.?Those on the conventional side will say that cancer cannot be cured, only managed, and that natural treatments have not been backed up scientifically.?Those on the natural side will say that conventional treatments are barbaric and usually do more harm than good.

I am a proponent of the natural way of doing things.?I believe that your body has developed breast cancer because of imbalances internally and if you can correct those imbalances, you can eliminate the cancer entirely.?Cutting off body parts and pumping… Continue reading

I imagine just about every woman after a certain age has some fear of breast cancer.?That’s not to say it’s on our minds night and day.?But with all we hear in the media and from doctors, it certainly has to be in there somewhere.?We all know someone who has it, has had it, or maybe has even died from it.?But as with all things like this, breast cancer starts with symptoms.?Here’s what to look for if you’re concerned and what to do to fix it if you find anything:

I’m sure most, if not all of us have had someone close to us diagnosed with breast cancer. Many of us have watched that person go through round after round of chemotherapy. Many of us have watched as their bodies were forever surgically altered. Many of us have watched them lose their battle and pass away. Whatever your experience may be, one thing is certain. Trying to find the right way to help someone with breast cancer can be tough.

I’ll fully admit that there are no right or wrong answers here. It will largely… Continue reading
