Recent Advancements in the Fight Against Lung Cancer

Lung Cancer Deaths are increasing at alarming rates each day due growth rate of people who smokes cigarette. Researchers are constantly trying to find and collect the resources to stop these deaths. There has been numerous developments in the fight against lung cancer.

Recent Developments:

A recent study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a group of researcher found that drinking pomegranate reduces the growth of lung cancers when they tested on some laboratory mice. Research leader Hasan Mukhtar, who is a Professor of dermatology at the School of Medicine and Public Health, says that the fruit contains a powerful cancer fighting agents that helps slowdown the growth of lung cancers. This discovery may seem small, but every discover is a step towards the cure for lung cancer.

In the study, abundance of antioxidants that pomegranate contains are main reason for this and it is also known that the pomegranate has been used for centuries as a medicine to cure various diseases.

Other research shows, a natural compound that is available in magnolia has capacity to block off the growth of cancer cells. Researcher and Phd, MD.Jack Arbiser from Emory University School of Medicine, has been studying the compound honokiol, which is found mainly in Japanese and Chinese herbal medicine, and is found to prevent the tumor growth of lung cancer. This could cause less pain and be more effective than traditional chemotherapy. The university is currently trying to get license to use honokiol in the patient so see more results.

An analysis involving a panel of genes will now help doctors to find out which lung cancer patients will have more survival chance or less. By finding out the percentage of survival, the treatment then can be done accordingly. Normally chemotherapy is given to the patient after surgery to reduce the chance of relapse of cancer.
