Understanding Alternative Breast Cancer Options

Posted on August 16, 2008

We’re all aware of the conventional breast cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, but what about alternative treatment options? Alternative options, for our purpose are NOT the same as complementary treatments. Complementary treatments are things that you can do in addition to the more conventional methods. Examples of this are reductions in the side effects of the main treatment, rather than treatment of the disease itself. These could include meditation, therapeutic touch, aromatherapy and massage to help alleviate the the stress of radiation treatment.

Alternative therapies are those that are used in place of traditional therapies all together. Some examples that one might use are: traditional Chinese medical practices such as acupressure or acupuncture, herbal remedies or special nutritional diets. An example of this is used to treat cancer instead of undergoing chemotherapy or radiation. Another option is to increase daily intake of green tea and coffee as these have been conclusively shown to help reduce the risk of even developing breast cancer.

Ultimately, when considering alternative treatments, it may be best to have a mixture of both alternatives and more conventional treatments. Just ensure that the conventional treatments do not further injure the body as it does heal itself over time if we let it. Doctors are trained in traditional forms of medication, however, they are moving towards alternative remedies as well as they see the value in having more than one option.

Other alternative treatments can include positive mental imagery, relaxation techniques, hypnosis, and mega vitamins. Even though you may be afraid of a negative response, it is important to consult with your doctor if you are considering doing alternative treatment options as he may be able to advise you and certainly should know. The main key is to have an open dialog so that you can fight the breast cancer together.

I am a proponent of the natural way of doing things.?I believe that your body has developed breast cancer because of imbalances internally and if you can correct those imbalances, you can eliminate the cancer entirely.?Cutting off body parts and pumping… Continue reading

I’m sure most, if not all of us have had someone close to us diagnosed with breast cancer. Many of us have watched that person go through round after round of chemotherapy. Trying to find the right way to help someone with breast cancer can be tough.

I’ll fully admit that there are no right or wrong answers here. It will largely… Continue reading
